PLAYING AFTER DARK
Pinhole photography is simultaneously a controlled and organic process. Whilst extensive testing to calculate the correct exposure is fundamental to the success of the photograph, there is always an element of the unknown in the result. This foray into the unpredictable is at the heart of it’s allure. In contrast, stop-motion animation can display a throw-away quality in it’s accessibility to anyone with a digital camera. Taking this simple technique and exploiting it’s disposable nature by applying it to a careful and somewhat laborious process, ‘Playing After Dark’ harnesses the regularity of stop animation with the craft, character and anarchic attributes of pinhole photography.
Cameras used in this process are displayed in the project i spy with my little eye.
A thirty second stop-frame animation.
